In response to the unique entrepreneurial community in Santa Fe and high real estate costs, homewise® wanted to develop a solution for small scale businesses. Their vision was to support artisans, craftspeople, and professionals by giving them the opportunity to own not only their living space but a commercial workspace as well. By creating a small development of these live/work units, homewise® seeks to create a community of economic and creative development. Starting with this vision and working within the established El Camino Crossing mixed use development, SCOUT created live/work units designed to be flexible with open floor plans, outdoor space, and a connected, urban feel.
Live / Work Space
Each building contains ten, two story units with exposed structure and additional infrastructure in the utility core to allow a great variety of live and work scenarios and customization. Second floor balconies provide private outdoor space for residents and also double as sunshades for the first floor entries. Polished and sealed concrete floors in the commercial spaces offer a move in option but also are ready for customization as needed by owners. Building D further supports small business opportunities with commercial storefront space on the ground floor and roll-up garage doors.
Affordable Housing
As part of the El Camino Crossing development, this project provides a mix of housing types, from single family homes to condos, 40% of which is dedicated to supporting Santa Fe’s affordable housing initiative.
Still to Come
Restaurants and other commercial amenities are planned for the site, along with pedestrian and bike connections to Cerillos Road and the Santa Fe River Trail.
