Shannon VanDusen, Architect with Scout Architecture and Design

Shannon VanDusen

Owner | Architect

Hometown: Chalfont, PA
Education: BA Architecture, Lehigh University; MA Architecture, University of New Mexico
Interests: Running, happy hour walks, The Philadelphia Eagles

Shannon grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia. Her early interest in art and detailed drawing led her to seek a BA in Architecture at Lehigh University.  She has always found travel especially inspiring, and it was a past service trip to Navajo Nation that piqued her interest in the Southwest where she pursued her Masters in Architecture at the University of New Mexico. Falling deeper in love with the intense skies, contrasting landscapes, and relaxed attitude, Shannon soon called Albuquerque home.  After putting in years at various larger firms and upon becoming a new mom, Shannon founded SCOUT in 2016. She enjoys working on a range of project types, including education, hospitality, medical, and everything in between.  She appreciates the unique challenge each project poses and finds the journey to arrive at the best solution with her clients extremely rewarding.  She is passionate about the power of design to positively impact the user and their daily experience with the built environment.  Shannon loves being a mom, running, and exploring the outdoors and new places.

Emily Brudenell, Architect with Scout Architecture and Design

Emily Brudenell, AIA

Partner | Architect

Hometown: Boise, ID
Education: BA and MA Architecture, Tulane University
Interests: Hiking, history podcasts, happy hour, beach vacations

From her first set of Legos and Lincoln logs, Emily Brudenell, AIA, knew she loved making things with her hands and using her design skills to solve problems. Her grandmother served as a docent at Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio, and visiting her, Emily realized great design has great transformative power. She demonstrates this passion for design, function, and sustainability at SCOUT through many project types, including multifamily housing, hospitality, medical office, and education. Throughout her career, Emily has worked on numerous renovation and historical projects, which are especially satisfying in their transformation and reuse.  Emily has shared her knowledge and love of design through volunteer work, helping to teach a design-focused curriculum at Mark Twain Elementary through the School Zone Institute. With its incredible landscapes and unique culture, Emily is grateful to call New Mexico home and has lived in Albuquerque for 15 years. She loves to explore the mountains and deserts of New Mexico with her dogs, Carlos and Dani.
